Saline County looking down road to solve problems

Roads were a challenge at the Saline County Commission meeting Tuesday morning.

Two items were on the agenda: a request to close a half mile of Holmes Road and a discussion about the gravel road program.

Mike Becker had requested the county abandon Holmes Road south of Humbargar Road because rains wash gullies along the unimproved road, taking fence posts down and allowing his cattle to get out.

Commissioners 5-0 to deny vacating the right of way. Commissioner Monte Shadwick asked Fishel to take another look at the road and the corner of Holmes and Riordan roads.

It’s a minimum-maintenance dirt road. The county’s road and bridge department has worked on the road several times recently, said Darren Fishel, road superintendent.

Several area residents spoke Tuesday against closing the road.
