The city of Salina is beginning a study to plan the future of Broadway Boulevard between Crawford and Ash streets.
The study will kick off with a public meeting from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Revolution Church, 1111 W. South.
Broadway always has been an important corridor, serving as a major avenue for retailing and business, said Dan Stack, city engineer. Changes in retail, as well as the building of Interstate Highway 135 and major commercial growth in the southern part of Salina, have all had an effect on Broadway.
It is time to take a detailed look at the challenges and opportunities presented along the boulevard and create an innovative, but realistic plan, Stack said.
The Broadway Boulevard Study will take about eight months to complete, and the Broadway Plan Advisory Committee will meet seven times, about once a month, during this period. There also will be three public events.
