The Conway Springs city council appointed a new member to both the fire department and the police department on Thursday, Dec. 28.
Conway Springs fire department chief Michael Erker came before the city council to ask for approval to put in his resignation, effective immediately. Willingly, but reluctantly, the council approved Erker’s request.
“Nothing has happened, it’s just time to go,” said Erker.
Erker has been with the Conway Springs fire department for 40 years. He became a member of the department in 1977 and was appointed chief in 1992.
“Most are good memories, some not good, some will haunt me for the rest of my life,” said Erker. “But as you know, it’s part of the job.”
