Saline County commissioners Thursday voted to rescind an earlier decision and award a contract to renovate the county’s road and bridge office to Cheney Construction.
At a special meeting, commissioners voted 5-0 to rescind their Dec. 19 decision to award the bid to Harbin Construction. They then voted 5-0 to award the contract to Cheney.
Cheney’s bid on the project was $869,180 and Harbin’s $933,850.
On Dec. 19, commissioners voted 4-1 to award the contract to Harbin, citing technical problems with Cheney’s bid and concerns about Cheney’s work raised by the architect and professional service provider, DMA Architects. Donnie Marrs and Mike McCall, with DMA Architects, raised these concerns in a letter to the commission dated Dec. 11 and in meetings with the commissioners. Commissioner Bob Vidricksen, now commission chairman, voted against awarding the bid to Harbin.
Vidricksen, who became chairman of the commission Jan. 9, said Thursday, “We re-evaluated our position and our situation.”
