Eleven months after Reno County Republican Brenda Kowitz won 21,329 votes as a candidate for county treasurer, she claimed the job.
At noon Tuesday in a courthouse courtroom, Kowitz placed her left hand on the Bible, raised her right hand and took the oath of office administered by Reno County District Judge Tim Chambers.
Across the state, county treasurers began new four-year terms Tuesday. While national, state and county officials elected in November commenced their terms in January, state statute says county treasurers assume office on the second Tuesday in October following the November election.
