When they met Tuesday, Leavenworth city commissioners approved 3 percent rate increases for sewer and refuse services for 2018.
Commissioners also voted to hire Black & Veatch Management Consulting, Kansas City, Missouri, to conduct a rate study for sewer service.
Public Works Director Mike McDonald has said the 3 percent increase for wastewater, or sewer, service will increase rates for the typical customer by less than $1 per month.
The city previously enacted 3 percent sewer rate increases for each of the last four years including 2017. And a 25 percent rate increase was approved before the start of 2013, according to information provided by City Clerk Carla Williamson.
The 3 percent increase for refuse service will increase the city’s residential rate by 49 cents per month.
The city previously enacted 3 percent increases for each of the last two years.
The city will pay Black & Veatch $51,520 for the sewer rate study.
