Wichita Police test upgraded body cameras

The Wichita Police department is testing out 12 upgraded body cameras.

Police Chief Gordon Ramsay says the upgraded cameras will give more transparency to the community.

“The technology is changing. We see across the nation where sometimes officers forget to turn their cameras on and valuable footage is not captured,” said Chief Ramsay.

He says that’s a flaw that could be fixed by upgraded cameras. The cameras being tested will automatically turn on and have Bluetooth capabilities.

“They will automatically come on when a taser is removed from the holster, or when the lights are turned on in the squad car, or when the shot gun is removed from the squad car.”
