City Center developers break ground on $50M mixed-use project in Lenexa

Copaken Brooks and EPC Real Estate Group LLC broke ground Tuesday on the latest phase of Lenexa City Center, the 200-acre mixed-use neighborhood incorporating all four corners of the intersection of 87th Street Parkway and Renner Boulevard.

The new $50 million project, The District at City Center, will add 175 luxury apartments, 45,000 square feet of offices and 35,000 square feet of retail to the existing 800,000 square feet of mixed uses already at the southwest corner of 87th and Renner.
The existing uses include the 200-unit Domain at City Center apartment project, which EPC developed across Penrose Lane from the District at City Center site, and the recently opened Lenexa City Hall and Civic Campus.

The District will open in March 2019 and will fill voids in the office and retail submarkets for full-floor offices for 5,000-square-foot tenants and first-class retail space.

“We are well underway with the District and City Center and are really hitting on all cylinders right now,” Keith Copaken, a principal with master developer Copaken Brooks, said in a release. “I’m not sure you could find a more exciting and active area in the Kansas City metro area right now.”
