This week we learned that a system meant to warn people of danger failed during those wildfire evacuations.
A system called Civic Ready used by the county, which costs thousands of dollars failed to send out emergency text alerts about the fires.
“We couldn’t do it because Civic Ready had updated their platform and it was showing us in California, instead of Kansas,” says Adam Wiershaar, Director of Reno County Emergency Management. Reno County Emergency Management Director Adam Wiershaar says he is disappointed in the Civic Ready system and hopes to get answers from the company.
“We’ve had several communications with them and they keep promising to fix it. And every time an emergency situation, we’ve tried use Civic Ready, it’s failed, unfortunately.”
In the meantime, Reno County is searching for other emergency notification options.
