The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce said it is committed to helping those affected by an approaching mass layoff at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy to find jobs in Reno County.
On Friday, the wind energy plant in Hutchinson announced that about 140 employees would be laid off in late September.
“We recognize the impact that this will have on those affected employees and their families, and we will do whatever we can to connect the available workforce to the jobs in our communities,” said Debra Teufel, president and chief executive officer of the chamber.
In a press release, the chamber said it is working closely with Siemens Gamesa leadership, Kansas WorkforceONE, and local employers to organize job fairs to help the displaced workers find employment in Reno County.
“There are many excellent employers in Reno County seeking reliable, quality employees to fill vacant positions and we want to assist those connections,” Teufel said in the release.
