Franklin County not ready to embrace hotel plan just yet

A proposal to relinquish 3 percent of the county’s transient guest tax for 10 years to help offset construction costs of a new hotel has been put on hold by the Franklin County Board of Commissioners.
The commissioners voted unanimously Wednesday to table a proposal to build a Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Ottawa. The move is intended to allow the developer a chance to provide commissioners with numbers to show how the proposed guest tax rebate for the project would affect the county’s overall transient guest tax (TGT) fund.
“I am concerned about using tax dollars toward another entity to benefit them,” Richard Oglesby, county commissioner, said. “I want to see numbers. I would like to see that kind of information.”
