Finney County officials: Private golf club’s uncertain financial future worrisome

While the owner of The Golf Club at Southwind isn’t commenting publicly, Finney County officials say staff layoffs at the club point to its financial issues, which they fear could be detrimental to the neighboring subdivision’s real estate values and ultimately the county’s tax base.

Southwind, a private golf club that includes a restaurant, bar and golf course, originally was opened in 1980 as Southwind Country Club by the E.C. Brookover Sr. family.

Dr. Bill Clifford, a Finney County commissioner, resident of the Southwind subdivision and a club member, said his understanding is that some club employees were laid off earlier this month. He said Southwind owner Craig Boomhower has been trying to sell the club without success.
