Paola considers new parking ordinance

Paola City Council members last week reviewed a new proposed ordinance designed to prevent residents from parking vehicles in yards, city right of way and other unauthorized areas throughout the city.
Council members discussed the proposed ordinance at a work session Jan. 3 in which no official decision could be made.
City Manager Jay Wieland said the proposed ordinance is based on a similar policy from Augusta, Kan., although Paola’s would not be as in-depth.
The ordinance states that no property owner, resident or tenant shall allow a vehicle to be parked or stored outside of a building or garage on any surface other than a driveway or paved parking area, but there are some exceptions.
