The issue: Director of Engineering Bruce Colle presented a possible policy for the city on when to add traffic-calming devices such as speed humps on residential streets at residents’ request. Previously, the city has considered requests on a case-by-case basis.
The plan: Colle recommended a three-phase plan, starting with education and continuing with enforcement and physical measures if appropriate. Education would consist of posting a speed radar trailer in the area of concern for two weeks after a resident contacts the engineering department.
“That totally works for me,” council member Jade Piros de Carvalho said. “I totally slow down when I see those things.”
