A Parsons resident thinks a tax on sugary soft drinks might be a good way the city could raise more revenue, but city commissioners don’t seem willing to pursue the idea.
Parsons resident Mike Godbey asked commissioners on Tuesday to explore the idea of a soda tax. Godbey said other cities have done an “extremely good job” of raising revenue with such a tax. Godbey had given City Manager Debbie Lamb newspaper articles about soda taxes in other cities, and she passed those along to the commissioners. He asked if the commission or city staff had given it any consideration.
