The Kansas Department of Commerce on Thursday gave preliminary approval for the issuance of $19.1 million in Sales Tax Revenue bonds to help finance Salina’s downtown revitalization project.
The Salina project constitutes a major commercial entertainment and tourism area and is therefore an “eligible area,” Commerce Secretary Antonio Soave wrote in a letter to Salina Mayor Kaye Crawford.
Deputy City Manager Mike Schrage said the news was “very encouraging. A preliminary opinion that they can approve our plan.”
