Augusta City Manager refuses salary increase

In an unusual move by a city official, Augusta’s City Manager Josh Shaw is turning down a raise. Shaw declined a 3 percent merit raise for his job performance and asked that it be transferred to the city’s Employee Benefit Fund.
Following an executive session at the end of Monday night’s Augusta City Council meeting, council members voted unanimously to retain Shaw and award him with a new two-year contract with a 3 percent merit increase.

Mayor Matt Childers stated Wednesday morning, “Josh approached me a couple months ago regarding what he’d like to do should the council offer him a raise. The fact that he wanted to do something special for our city employees speaks volumes about Josh’s character and leadership qualities. We are grateful having him as our city manager.”
