Derby buys school district land to enhance city services

Derby is planning a new fire station in the central part of town.

The city recently purchased from Derby USD 260 the property at 715 E. Madison Ave. and is in the midst of the design process for the new station. City officials say the need for a fire station is long overdue because the existing station was constructed to accommodate a volunteer fire department. Derby now has a full-time fire department and has grown those operations in recent years.

The city is working with GLMV Architecture to design a new station that better meets the needs of the city. Additionally, the new station will be more centrally located in town.
