Labette County Attorney Stephen Jones found that the Parsons City Commission committed no major violation of the Kansas Open Meetings Act during a Jan. 25 special meeting, although a technical violation did occur.
City Attorney Ross Albertini as a result of the finding of the technical violation has changed the wording of executive session motions that the commission should use. He also recently began providing written motions for the commission to read.
On Dec. 21, Jones issued his findings to Raven Martinez’s complaint alleging the commission’s executive sessions during the meeting called to discuss confidential information of a corporation. The commission was discussing Ducommon Inc.’s planned expansion and economic development incentives the city might offer.
