One big change next year is that local elections will move from the spring to the fall in November. The legislature push forward the bill last year to tie in for when other offices hold their elections in the hopes of increasing voter turnout. Garden City Manager Matt Allen feels it was an overreach of state government when no major problem existed.
One thing will remain the same. Local elections will stay non-partisan meaning candidates do not have to decide whether to run as a Republican, Democrat or Independent.
