Canton officer recognized for watching out for others

Mark Barnett has spent his life in the service of others. Now, the American Legion has recognized him for his efforts.

The Legion’s Canton post honored him on Veterans Day for his work in the military and as Canton’s chief of police.

Growing up in a small town in Ohio, Mark Barnett knew he wanted to see more of the world, so he joined the military.

“That was something I wanted to do since I was a little kid,” Barnett said.

Barnett spent eight years in the Army as an infantryman.
