Shawnee police officers act as ‘elves,’ passing out gifts from a generous ‘Secret Santa’

The countdown to Christmas is underway and Santa’s already stopped by the Shawnee Police Department. Thanks to a Secret Santa — officers spent Thursday afternoon surprising people with some nice “green” gifts.

You might say Shawnee Officer Nick Shurmantine and several of his fellow co-workers were on the go Thursday afternoon, acting as elves for a kindhearted “Secret Santa,” who donated $10,000 to the police department.

Each officer then drove around town, and randomly passed out $100 bills to college kids, a mother of five, a friendly crossing guard, and other unsuspecting souls.
