Hutchinson city seal may change after 80 years

Sunday marked the 80th anniversary of Hutchinson City Council officially adopting the Salthawk seal design. On Tuesday, City Council will consider replacing that design with a new one, featuring Hutchinson’s ties to salt mining, the Kansas State Fair and the Cosmosphere.

Mayor Jade Piros de Carvalho said last October that she thought it was time for a new city seal. The News assisted with a search for designs, receiving 13 entries. After an online poll, the results were presented to City Council in January. However, none of the favored entries were suitable for embossing, so the council took no action.
