Reno County considers changes to open burning policy

Burning which is regulated by the policy includes burning brush, trash and debris piles, vegetation such as grass, trees, crop residue and other dried plants “for crop, range, pasture, wildlife or watershed management.”

The new policy, while still defining “field type fires” and “non-field type fires,” clarifies that both open burning.

Open burning does not include burning conducted in “fireproof containers with sufficient cover to prevent embers from escaping, fire pits, camp fires … or fires of similar recreational purpose,” including fires for cooking or ceremonial purposes, “provided such fires are manageable and attended by a responsible person.”
