Yes, Amazon.com will hire 1,000 employees for its new 822,104-square-foot fulfillment center in Edgerton, as was reported Thursday. But that’s just for the first year.
Depending on how business shakes out for the center, it ultimately will employ 1,500 to 2,000 people, Edgerton City Administrator Beth Linn said Friday.
Ashley Robinson, public relations manager for Amazon Operations in Kansas, said the company will be hiring fulfillment associates, who will pick, pack and ship large items, as well as hiring managers, facilities technicians and other support personnel.
Robinson did not disclose how much those employees would be paid, noting only that “hourly wages vary by role.”
