Residential construction here could get a jumpstart in coming months as the Arma City Council considers a proposal to donate a lot in an undeveloped subdivision to a builder as an incentive to induce more building activity.
Councilman Dick Cleland said he has visited with a contractor interested in building homes in the Westland Acres area on West Perry Road. He recommended the city consider offering one of the lots in the development to the builder for free as an inventive.
“They’ve been sitting there vacant for at least six years,” Cleland said of the platted residential area where no construction activity has taken place. “Our return on this is horrible.”
Mayor Buddy Bualle said the lots have been advertised for sale for several years with no takers. He said the area already has utility service so there would be no additional expense to the city.
