Mission teams up with Shawnee, Lenexa to offer trips for senior citizens

Mission City Councilors agreed on Wednesday to partner with the cities of Shawnee and Lenexa to offer more traveling opportunities for senior citizens.

The agreement allows the three cities to pool resources and secure a motor coach for extended trips. As it stands, Mission rents a van from Mission Square Independent Senior Living for short trips. The city doesn’t have enough people to justify using a large bus for longer trips, said Parks and Recreation Director Christy Humerickhouse.

The new plan guarantees Mission residents will have at least 15 spots on each trip.
