Daniel N. Stearns, the man who sued Cowley County and the City of Winfield, was given $167,500 in an out-of-court settlement in 2011.
According to terms of the settlement, those funds cover all costs — including legal fees, expert witness fees, court costs and mental health counseling bills — incurred during the case.
Stearn’s lawsuit, filed in 2007 and dismissed in 2011 after the settlement, has a direct connection with the active wrongful death lawsuit filed by the Tayler Rock family late last year.
The settlement awarded to Stearns does not appear to have been made public until now.
