Westwood doesn’t share same frustrations over school TIF policy, mayor says

Westwood does not hold some of the same frustrations as other cities with the Shawnee Mission School District’s proposed policy on Tax Increment Financing, Mayor John Yé said last week.

“I have heard a lot of frustration,” Yé said. “We don’t necessarily hold those same frustrations.”

Yé cited Westwood’s strong relationship with the school district, especially on the future of Westwood View Elementary School. He said the district is still pursuing purchasing the Entercom property near the current Westwood View as the site for a future elementary school. The city’s sense of identity starts with Westwood View, Yé said, reflecting comments he heard at a recent comprehensive planning meeting.
