Months old solid waste violations cost heaps

Violations in light of a state visit 10 months ago at the landfill and transfer station cost the county coffer thousands of dollars as part of commission business on Tuesday.
Commissioners approved to make payment of $9,500 for previous fines and violations that arose from a Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment inspection on May 27, 2015. The eight violations occurred during the tenure of Chase Brunick, the former manager of Atchison County Solid Waste. Brunick stepped down from his position on Aug. 18, 2015. He was officially named the county’s solid waste manager in March 2013.
