Visitors and travelers along Interstate 70 will be welcomed to Hays by a pair of monument signs that will be transplanted on the east and west edges of the city.
Hays city commissioners voted 3-1 during the commission meeting Thursday to accept a bid from Tobin Rupe Stoneworks of Andover to construct two signs. The 10-foot tall and 18-foot wide monuments will be put together by three slabs of Flint Hills limestone that will read “Welcome to Hays.”
The bid of $48,300 was one of two bids considered by city staff, led by Rick Rekoske, director of the Hays Convention and Visitors Bureau. The other bid came from Commercial Sign of Hays for $69,000. Its proposal was constructed of welded steel fabrication and covered heavy sheet aluminum with vinyl graphics.
