Carbondale hires new police chief

The Carbondale City Council began the process of rebuilding its police department, hiring a new police chief at a special meeting Feb. 29.

Carbondale has been without a full-time officer since the resignations of Amanda Williams and Kayla McNary. Both officers elected to use their comp time and vacation before their designated last day, Feb. 29.

“Has there been any police protection in Carbondale the last two weeks?” asked George Reed, resident and former council member.

The council said there had not been.

“Don’t be surprised if you see me out in my yard toting my shotgun to defend my property,” said Reed.
