Derby passes formal resolution against state-imposed tax lid

Kansas cities and counties – besides Sedgwick – have been working against state measures that would restrict local government’s ability to raise property taxes unless approved in a public election.
Derby did its part last week by passing a formal resolution stating opposition to the tax lid, which Derby City Manager Kathy Sexton called “damning” for cities and counties – especially if additional measures are added during this legislative session.
“There’s a number of bills we’re following in Topeka, but this is certainly the most damning one for cities,” Sexton said.
