City of Topeka tries to figure out what to do with excess $8 million in sales tax revenue

Topeka’s governing body is trying to figure out what to do with an estimated $8 million the city will have left over in revenue from a countywide, half-cent sales tax after it expires Dec. 31.

Governing body members took up the topic at their meeting Tuesday evening, where Councilman Jonathan Schumm recommended the city put the money entirely toward fixing streets.
