Harvey County sheriff talks about what he says was worst day of his career

There has been little rest for law enforcement in the past 48 hours after Thursday’s deadly shooting at Excel Industries in Hesston. 

The man leading the investigation says he finally slept for the first time Friday night. Harvey County Sheriff’ T. Walton met exclusively with Eyewitness News Saturday. 

Walton looks back to April 2005 when he was a sergeant for the Newton Police Department. He was trying to negotiate with a man who shot and killed Harvey County Sheriff’s Deputy Kurt Ford. 

"I though nothing would get worse than that up until a few days ago and it got worse than that," Walton said, looking back to Thursday’s shooting in Hesston.
