City officials are working towards tightening the Ottawa’s flood coverage.
At Monday evening’s city study session at City Hall, 101 S. Hickory St., Michelle Stegman, city human resources director, and Scott Bird, finance director, presented their recommended changes to the city’s existing flood insurance plan. According to Bird and Stegman, the city has excess coverage in some areas and not enough in others.
This recommendation comes in response to the Jan. 11 city study session, at which city commissioners requested a recommendation in response to an overview of existing flood coverage conducted by city officials. It was also recommended the city reevaluate existing flood coverage in light of the recent certification of the city’s levy. The levy was accredited in 2015.
