Shawnee drafting new odor, trash pick-up regulations for Waste Managment in response to recent issues

The city of Shawnee is creating a new odor and litter control plan, among other things, to address recent concerns with the Johnson County Landfill owned by Waste Management.

On Wednesday, representatives of Waste Management spoke with the Shawnee Planning Commission about the recent spike in odor complaints, trash pick-up issues and communication breakdowns with the city and its residents. Members of the planning commission took the opportunity to ask tough questions of Waste Management and to get explanations as to the recent issues.
