Consultant recommends closing of four of Topeka’s 12 fire stations

A consultant hired by Topeka’s city government recommends it close four of the city’s 12 fire stations.

But the city would maintain the same number of firefighters and fire trucks if it follows the recommendations from Wilsonville, Ore.-based Emergency Services Consulting International, said Kent Greene, project manager for the company.

The report suggests the city compensate for the closings by increasing staffing at two stations and building two new ones.
