Baldwin City Council rejects affordable housing duplex project after neighbors object

The Baldwin City Council on Monday rejected a rezoning request that would have allowed construction of a duplex complex at the north end of the Firetree subdivision.

The decision to reject the rezoning was popular with the more than 50 Firetree residents who filled the City Council meeting room in the Baldwin City Public Library. The four residents who spoke against the rezoning said duplexes would adversely effect the property values of existing Firetree homes, add traffic to Flame Way and be out of character with their single-family home neighborhood.
