Shawnee County Commission approves new interlocal sales tax agreement

In approving a counter offer to the City of Topeka’s proposed interlocal agreement, Shawnee County commissioners Thursday reminded the city’s governing body that the county has the ultimate authority to levee the 15-year, $257.89 million sales tax extension that both governments need for economic development.

The commission approved a new interlocal agreement for the county-wide sales tax that makes significant changes to the plan Topeka’s governing body passed last week.
