Lawrence declares Oread Inn in default of redevelopment agreement

The city of Lawrence declared developers of The Oread hotel in default of a redevelopment agreement Thursday that has generated $3 million for the group, saying developers have not cooperated with the city in a $500,000 tax dispute.

Interim City Manager Diane Stoddard said in an email that an anticipated report sent to the city Jan. 27 from Oread Wholesale — the company at the center of a $500,000 tax dispute between the city and developers — “did not alleviate the city’s concerns.”

Both the city and an attorney for Oread Wholesale declined to release a copy of the report Wednesday, but Stoddard said in a letter to Oread Inn on Thursday that the report attempted to legally justify Oread Wholesale’s actions.
