Oxford residents discuss grocery store struggle

People in St. John are worried about getting a new grocery store in the town.

It’s a situation people in Oxford know all too well, after losing their grocery store in 2006.

The new grocery store called ‘Hometown Market’ is exactly what people were asking for for nearly a decade.

In 2006, the owner of the previous grocery store decided to leave the shop but nobody wanted to take over. Residents were then forced to drive to Wellington or Winfield to get their groceries.

City officials say they saw a decrease in sales tax revenue and had a hard time attracting people to the town without a grocery store.
