Small-town hospitals struggling financially

Rural health care has long been a concern for Kansans. Now, a new study suggests the problem may be bigger than first thought.

Kansas has 126 community hospitals with Wichita and the Kansas City area having the most hospital beds.

Many rural hospitals, though, are facing tough financial times with a new study showing 31 of them are vulnerable to closing. That amounts to one-quarter of all Kansas hospitals.
