A property tax lid law requiring property tax increases rising above the inflation rate to be approved by local voters is getting different reviews of local leaders.
Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell says, “We’re opposed to the property tax lid and certainly the way it’s been presented. The reality is you elect local individuals for a reason.”
But while Longwell says that’s the view of a majority of Wichita’s City Council, there are different opinions across the street at Sedgwick County Courthouse.
Sedgwick County Commissioner Karl Peterjohn says, “A majority of the County Commission strongly supports the idea of requiring voter approval before property taxes can be raised.”
