Two commissioners voted against an ordinance on Monday giving all city workers a 2 percent raise, but not because they are opposed to a pay increase.
Commissioners Kevin Cruse and Aaron Keith Stewart disagree with the distribution of the pay raises. The city workers will get an across-the-board 2 percent cost-of-living pay increase.
“The current city formula is not equitable in my opinion. Department heads will have an increase that is disproportionate to lower management, and that is not fair,” Stewart said in a written communication to the Sun on Tuesday.
Stewart also said employees at the bottom of the city’s pay scale should be held harmless in increased pension and health care cost increases and that supervisors should have a merit system.
