Shawnee County Commission told of study touting economic development value of parks

A national study estimates operations and capital spending at local and regional parks support about 9,000 jobs in Kansas while creating nearly $1 billion annually in economic development, Shawnee County parks and recreation director John Knight told county commissioners Monday.

Commissioners Shelly Buhler, Bob Archer and Kevin Cook heard Knight describe results of a study on the economic impact of local parks conducted by the Center for Regional Analysis at George Mason University on behalf of the National Recreation and Park Association.
