Roeland Park planning to hear presentation on age for tobacco purchases

Roeland Park may be the next city in northeast Johnson County to at least consider the proposal that the age for tobacco purchases be raised to 21.

The city council agreed last week to hear a presentation from Councilor Erin Thompson at one of its February meetings, possibly on Feb. 1 or Feb. 15, according to Council President Becky Fast.

Both Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo., passed ordinances in November raising the age for tobacco purchases from 18 to 21.
