The Shawnee County Commission heard a presentation Tuesday informing them the county is paying its employees significantly less than comparable counties.
Priya Kapila, a senior manager at CBIZ Human Capital Services, said average base salaries in the county are 15 percent lower than salaries for the same positions in other counties.
To bring all county employees to the minimum of pay ranges seen in similar counties, Shawnee County will need to spend $1,468,540 on raises.
The cost, however, of implementing Kapila’s recommendations will likely go much farther.
