Wal-Mart said Friday it plans to close 269 stores this year, including all 102 of its small-format Express stores.
The move reflects a shift in strategy in which the retailing giant will focus more on building up its e-commerce firepower and improving its massive supercenters and its grocery-centric Neighborhood Market stores.
Several of the closings will affect Wichita and other cities in Kansas. All are closing as of Jan. 28.
Wal-Mart Expresses in the area and state that will close are: 20 W. Rosewood, Rose Hill; 900 E. Ross, Clearwater; 505 Housatonic, Burlington; 1105 E. 15th, Ellsworth; 605 Orchard Dr., Hillsboro; and 705 N. High School Ave., Columbus.
