Topeka police call off high-speed chase Monday afternoon after speeds reach around 70 mph

A high-speed chase through the streets of central Topeka ended shortly after 1 p.m. Monday when police called off the pursuit.

The chase, which had speeds of up to around 70 mph, was reported to have started just west of downtown near S.W. 4th and Topeka Boulevard.

From there, the chase went west, with reports of a vehicle described as a silver Jeep Liberty going to S.W. 8th and Washburn, then south on Washburn past S.W. 10th, S.W. 12th, S.W. Huntoon and S.W. 17th, finally slowing because of traffic near S.W. 21st Street.
